Universal School Meals

Blue Cross believes no child should suffer the significant impacts of food insecurity. As the co-chair and co-funder of Hunger Free Schools Coalition, Blue Cross advocated for the 2023 legislation that provides no-cost breakfast and lunch to all Minnesota students regardless of income. Experts anticipate the free meals will increase academic achievement and decrease racial and health inequities in Minnesota.

Food Justice Funding Initiative

The Food Justice Funding Initiative is a multiyear efort designed to advance food justice by ensuring access to healthy, afordable and culturally relevant foods without barriers. Funded projects refect community-led strategies to address food insecurity and support BIPOC leaders in creating equitable change to local food systems. The Center for Prevention has awarded $1.2 million in funding per year for up to three years to 12 Minnesota nonprofts.
